The Northern Circuit, known for Serengeti and Ngorongoro, is popular, but the Southern Circuit offers a memorable experience with fewer crowds and lower prices.

This journey includes Ruaha National Park, Tanzania’s largest park, famous for elephants, lions, and rare antelopes. You’ll also visit Nyerere National Park, known for river safaris and pristine wilderness.

Mikumi National Park, just 7 hours from Dar es Salaam, is the easiest park to access and great for a quick wildlife experience. For nature lovers, combining Mikumi with Udzungwa Mountains National Park offers beautiful waterfalls and rainforest trails.

You can customize your trip, whether it’s a 2-day visit to Mikumi or an 8-day adventure in the Southern Circuit. Spending 2 to 5 nights in each park allows you to enjoy the wildlife fully, making this itinerary both authentic and budget-friendly.

This 5-day adventure takes you through some of Southern Tanzania’s most breathtaking landscapes—from the open plains of Mikumi, to the vast wilderness of Ruaha, and the lush rainforests of Udzungwa Mountains. Each day offers a unique mix of wildlife encounters, scenic drives, and cultural highlights, giving you a well-rounded and unforgettable safari experience.

Day 1: Mikumi National Park

Start your day with a hotel pickup and a welcome from your safari guide. Then, drive two hours to Mikumi National Park, the fourth-largest park in Tanzania. You can see elephants, giraffes, lions, zebras, and leopards during a full-day game drive until sunset.

Day 2: Mikumi to Ruaha National Park

After breakfast, take a 7-hour drive to Ruaha National Park, stopping for lunch in Iringa. You’ll enjoy a game drive to Ruaha Tanapa Cottage, where you can see impressive wildlife. Ruaha is the largest national park in Tanzania, home to many elephants, lions, leopards, and over 400 bird species.

Day 3: Ruaha National Park (Full Day Game Drive)

Spend the day on exciting morning and afternoon game drives in Ruaha. You might see elephants, wild dogs, and large lion prides. The park also features over 1,600 plant species and more than 370 bird species.

Day 4: Ruaha to Udzungwa Mountains National Park

Begin with an early morning game drive, then return for a late breakfast. Drive 8 hours to Udzungwa Mountains National Park, known for its rainforests and waterfalls. If time permits, visit a traditional Maasai village in Mikumi. Enjoy the evening to relax before your hike.

Day 5: Udzungwa Mountain National Park

Udzungwa is home to many unique wildlife species, including 12 types of primates. Hike through its forests to spot rare species. After your hike, drive back to Morogoro in the late afternoon to end your adventure.
